The world heritage city
of Bath is just to the East of us, while the larger, exciting city
of Bristol is just to the North. Both can be reached in half an
hour. To the south is Wells with its astonishing 13th century cathedral.
The Mendip hills are designated as an area of outstanding natural
beauty, and have many hidden gems. These include Wookey Hole caves,
the stone circle of nearby Stanton Drew, Cheddar with its famous
gorge, Downside Abbey, and the Chew valley lakes. Also within range
for daytrips are Longleat, Stourhead, Stonehenge, the American Museum,
the Somerset levels, Glastonbury, and Street with the popular shopping
opportunities at Clarks village. Cyclists and walkers too have routes
close by, including the famous West Country Way and the Limestone
Link.
